AGA Bonanno Award Nomination Process

  1. Submit a Nomination

    Whose contributions to gemology would you like to honor? Complete and submit the nomination form. Be sure to include specifics that highlight your nominee’s impact on the gemological community. The deadline for nominations is 11:59 pm (Pacific time) on July 15th. Nominations received after July 15th will be applied to the following year. 

  2. Voting Process

    All nominations are read and vetted by the Bonanno Award Committee before presentation to the AGA Board of Governors for a vote to narrow the slate of nominations if necessary. AGA Members then cast their vote for the AGA Bonanno Award for Excellence in Gemology.

  3. Award Presentation

    AGA Bonanno Award recipients are honored during the Gala Awards Ceremony and Dinner-Dance following the annual AGA Gemological Conference in Tucson, Arizona.

Bonanno Award Nomination

AGA Antonio C. Bonanno Award for Excellence in Gemology

Inaugurated in February 2000, this award honors recipients for their contributions to the gemological field and their work to establish and maintain high professional standards. Bonanno award recipients are recognized and presented with a specially commissioned bronze plaque and medallion, together with a check for $2,000 during the Gala Awards Ceremony & Dinner following the AGA Conference in Tucson, AZ.

Past recipients include leading research gemologists from world-renowned laboratories, educators, market analysts, and innovators of equipment and technology that have positively impacted the world of gemology.

Nominations are open to the global gemological community. AGA membership is not required for nominations or nominees. A nomination should be for an individual candidate and not a team.

The AGA Antonio C. Bonanno award was created to recognize those who have made significant contributions to the field of gemology. Inaugurated in 2000, the award pays homage to Antonio Bonanno, a gemologist and teacher who was instrumental in the creation of AGA.
