Jon Phillips, GG (GIA), CG (AGS)

This highly respected industry veteran has worked in all of its “facets” of the jewellery business, for over 35 years, and is currently Divisional Manager for Canadian Diamonds at Corona Jewellery Company Ltd. in Toronto, Canada - where some of his responsibilities include managing the rough to polish systems for Canadian Diamonds (including purchasing of rough directly from mining companies, to working with diamond polishing factories to produce the final product ; being Corona’s lead instructor & traveling worldwide to promote Canadian diamonds and gold; and acting as first contact for anti-money laundering (AML) and Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) compliances.

Jon also writes the Diamond Market News for the Gem Guide’s bi-monthly newsletter; is a sought-after presenter to the jewellery trade; and instructs part time at Vancouver Community College’s Jewellery Art and Design program.

Phillips past experience includes working for mining giant BHP Billiton Diamonds as a Marketing Manager (in Vancouver & Antwerp), as Service Manager for Birks (in Vancouver) and as a journeyman goldsmith, learned while owning/running a custom jewellery retail business for 15 yrs.

Jon’s dedication also extends to the many service roles he holds for various trade organizations, including roles as: the Assurance Committee chair (and as a past RJC Standards Committee member) for RJC; Education Committee chair for Canadian Jewellers Assoc. (CJA) and sitting on the Government Relations Committee; and currently as President of the Canadian Diamond Code of Conduct Committee (CDCC) and past VP for diamond commission for CIBJO.
