Martin Rapaport

Martin Rapaport, founder and chairman of the Rapaport Group, is a primary advocate for ethical, transparent, competitive and efficient diamond markets. The Rapaport Price List and RapNet trading network have transformed the diamond industry by providing global price, availability and trading transparency in a competitive environment.

Martin is an acknowledged industry leader, who addresses topics of critical importance to the diamond trade. He is one of the originators of the Kimberley Process (KP) and has protested greenwashing by the KP regarding the legitimization diamonds from Zimbabwe. His article "Guilt Trip" was read into the Congressional Record by Congressman Tony Hall upon introduction of the Clean Diamond Act. Recently, Martin and the Rapaport Group was appointed the marketing and auction agent for the 709 carat "Peace Diamond" by the Government of Sierra Leone. The Rapaport Group handled the marketing and the auction free of charge because all the money from the sale was going to the artisanal diggers and the people of Sierra Leone.

Martin Rapaport began his career in Antwerp Belgium as a diamond cleaver in 1975, he established the Rapaport Price List in 1978 and the RapNet Diamond Trading Network in 1990. The Rapaport Group employs 230 team members and operates offices in New York, Las Vegas, Antwerp, Ramat Gan, Mumbai, Surat, Dubai, and Hong Kong.
Martin has been a strong advocate for an ethical diamond trade and played an important role working with governments; and the artisanal diamond sector; Martin is also playing an advocate for improved international trade relations related to the diamond and jewelry industry and has recently filed a submission with the U.S Commerce Department and U.S. Trade Representative;
