Richard Hughes

Richard W. Hughes is widely regarded as one of the world's foremost experts on ruby and sapphire. The author of several books and over 150 articles on gems and gemology, his writings and photographs have appeared in a diverse range of publications. In a lengthy career, Richard has received numerous industry awards. Co-winner of the 2004 Edward J. G├╝belin Most Valuable Article Award from Gems & Gemology magazine, the following year he was awarded a Richard T. Liddicoat Journalism Award from the American Gem Society. In 2010, he received the 2010 AGA Antonio C. Bonanno Award for Excellence in Gemology from the Accredited Gemologists Association. The Association Fran├žaise de Gemmologie (AFG) in 2013 named Richard as one of the fifty most important figures that have shaped the history of gems since antiquity.

Today Richard operates Lotus Gemology in Bangkok, the world's only lab exclusively devoted to ruby, sapphire and spinel.

Conference check-in begins at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 3, 2016
Conference sessions from 8:30 a.m. - 4:45 p.m. Continental breakfast, light lunch & Gala ticket are included with the conference fee.

The evening will conclude with a festive dinner and awards ceremony, honoring this year's winner of the prestigious AGA Antonio C. Bonanno Award for Excellence in Gemology.

The Gala Champagne Reception is from 6:30 to 7:30 pm followed by the Gala Dinner Dance & Bonanno Award Ceremony from 7:30 to 11:00 p.m.
